Job Interview Series: What to Wear?

Today on our Job Interview Series we will be discussing what to wear when you're interviewing for the  job. These outfits will be targeted towards the corporate world for your first "big girl" job. However, you can also rock some of these looks to a retail or restaurant interview if you want.
This cobalt scalloped dress from J.Crew is perfect for an interview because it's both stylish and dressy enough for the occasion. The nude Tory Burch flats tone down the outfit a bit so it's not too bold and truly tie the whole ensemble together. (These are also insanely comfortable, believe it or not) The Michael Kors tote is the perfect size for putting all of your notes, copies of your resume, and any other information for the interview. The crystal statement necklace pictured above adds the perfect amount of personality and style to the outfit.

This second outfit is another great option for a job interview. While it is fairly simple, you are still able to show off your style with the bold purse and you can even add some fun accessories if you want. The black and white striped peplum top is perfect paired with some black straight legged pants (so that you're stylish but still professional). The black Tory Burch flats are simple but still showcase your own personal style. The hot pink bag also adds a pop of color to the otherwise pretty standard office outfit. You should probably pair this top with a sweater to make it a little more office appropriate. Lastly, we added a little planner so that you can jot down any notes before and after the interview.

Our third and final outfit is an adorable pencil skirt and oxford combination. We used all neutral colors in this ensemble to emulate a professional image. The pencil skirt is a classic and is an essential item to have going into the working world. The grey pencil skirt has been paired with a white button up oxford to keep the whole classic look going. The navy Tory Burch bow flats are the perfect shoe for this classic office look because bows always make things better. The all navy accessories were added to complete the look and keep it very office appropriate.

I hope that you all enjoyed our "what to wear" portion of our job interview series. Check back next Tuesday for another post from us!

How to: Glam up your iPhone Charger

Most of us have tried our fair share of DIY projects from Pinterest and occasionally failed, but have you ever tried to add glitter  to your iPhone charger? Probably not. Here at B&G Designs, we love absolutely anything sparkly..so any chance we get to make an item of ours glittery, we are one hundred percent down for it.

First, you need to gather all of your crafting supplies. All you'll need for this project is your iPhone charging block and charger, some mod podge, a small paintbrush, some tape, clear nail polish and any color glitter of your choosing. Once you have all of your supplies together, then you can begin the glitterfying process.

The first step of this DIY is to cover the areas that you won't be putting glitter on with some tape to ensure that the glitter doesn't get anywhere that you don't want it to be. Then cover your charging block and the charging part of your charger in a thin layer of mod podge. Then, quickly sprinkle your glitter evenly onto the charging block so that as much glitter can stick before the mod podge begins to dry. Continue this process until the charging block and charger is completely filled with glitter. Once you're done with that, let the first coat of mod podge dry. Once that coat is dry, add another thin layer of mod podge and cover up any areas that are lacking glitter so that it isn't patchy. Then you let the mod podge dry one more time. Lastly, you're going to put a coat of clear nail polish on it to leave it with a shiny finish. Then once it dries, it's ready to use!

Here are some final products:

Here's an iridescent purple glitter charger.
You can even do a pattern on your charger! This orange and blue chevron pattern makes your iPhone charger stand out even more than just the plain glitter.
This one is a personal favorite...because who doesn't love hot pink glitter?

We hope you enjoyed today's DIY. Stay tuned for the next DIY post sometime in the near future.

Love always,

Jenny of B&G Designs

Back to School Series: Desk Organization

Today at B&G Designs we are going to be discussing how to organize your desk and keep it organized throughout the entire school year. Organization is the key to being successful so check out these tips and tricks for some organization inspiration.

The first thing you should do to organize your desk is get some desk accessories...It also doesn't hurt if your desk accessories are colorful and cute. We recommend you getting something to hold your writing utensils along with a paper organizer, a stapler and a hole puncher to keep your papers organized.
As you can see, we added a pop of pink, mint, and gold to make our desk more colorful and cheery. The pencils have cute sayings on them that will inspire you as you write or do any of your homework. The pink and white desk organizer will keep all of your important documents organized. The pink bejeweled stapler will make you want to use it simply because it's cute and fun. The gold pencil holder is classy yet fun. We also recommend that you invest in a small notebook for daily planning and to-do lists.

Because desks don't always have drawers, we also recommend that you have a free standing chest of drawers to keep any extra paper or school supplies that you want to keep tucked away instead of displayed on your desk.

These three free standing drawers can be found at places like Target, Overstock.com, and most other places that have office furniture. You can either place these drawers underneath your desk or next to your desk depending on your personal taste.

If you are fortunate enough to have a desk that has drawers, then lucky you! If that's the case, you should get a drawer organizer so that each item in your drawers has a specific place.

Drawer organizers like these can be found nearly anywhere including Target, Walmart and the Container Store.

The final thing that we recommend you have on your desk is a dry erase board calendar. This will keep you updated on your events for each week without having to crack open your planner.

We love this DIY paint swatch dry erase board monthly calendar. It adds a fun new take on the classic dry erase board. You can customize the paint swatches to match your room color scheme or just use your favorite colors.

That's all for our desk organization inspiration feature. We hope that you got some new ideas on how to keep your desk organized.

Love always,

Jenny of B&G Designs

Back to School Series: What's in my backpack?

The Pumpkin Spice Latte and Back-To-School sales have made it pretty clear, it is time for school again! A successful school year means being prepared for any occasion, so we're here to list some of the things you should always make sure to have on hand. First and foremost, you need to have something to carry all of your books and study materials around in. Here’s a sample of what is out there!

These bags were chosen for their ability to hold laptops because it is hard to keep up with your professors unless you are able to type out all of your notes. The upper right bag is a Vera Bradley backpack that allows you to carry your laptop but is still the typical backpack style while the rest are messenger bag style.

The next thing you need to be a successful student are study materials!

For those of you taking math/science/or even some Psychology classes, you will need a scientific calculator! You will also need plenty of pens and pencils to take down notes, calculations, and/or class assignments and of course notebooks or paper to write things down! Highlighters and notecards should be two key staples in your study materials! Notecards are essential for reviewing test material and highlighters help you keep track of important information that could potentially be on your future tests. Last but definitely NOT least we included a coffee mug because caffeine IVs are not legal...yet! ;)

The last thing we thought was important to include is something that helps you stay on top of all your studying, assignments, and even sorority or other club events.

The agenda! They come in the basic style you can usually get at the bookstore (featured in the upper right) to the very popular Lilly Pulitzer and Kate Spade agendas which come in a myriad of prints and styles! Our personal favorite is the TFIOS planner (bottom left) because some infinities are shorter than others :) Plan them well so you can enjoy them!

With hope for your back to school success,
Mariah (PR Manager)

Back to School Series: Outfit Ideas

As you know, back to school is right around the corner...some of you may have already started but that's okay. We're here to give you some outfit ideas for your first day of school....or just what to wear to school in general if you've already begun.

This first outfit is a bright Lilly Pulitzer tank dress in the print Sea or Be Seen. To add to the bright theme, we paired this dress with a neon pink Michael Kors purse. So the outfit does not completely blind you, a pair of platinum Jack Rogers works perfect with this dress and basically any outfit.

This second outfit is a little more casual for back to school. The black and beige chevron shorts add a bit of a pattern to the otherwise all black outfit. The black tank is cute but simple because the shorts are so out there. The casual black sandals are comfortable to walk in but still stylish and appropriate for school. This black quilted crossbody bag from Michael Kors adds a classic touch to this outfit. You can also add a cardigan to this outfit if a tank top is not appropriate at your school.

This third outfit is perfect for the stylish girl who prefers to rock a pair of pants. This coral and white chevron top paired with white jeans is perfect for back to school. The brown Tory Burch Miller sandals and the beige Michael Kors purse are just an added bonus to an already fabulous outfit. You'll be super summery and cute with this look and your classmates just might envy you for your impeccable style.

We hope that you liked some of our outfit choices. Let us know what YOU are planning on wearing on your first day of school!

Love Always,

Job Series: Interview Tips

Lately I've pretty much become a pro at job interviews so here are a few tips on how to rock your first (or maybe your 5th) interview.

#1: Be knowledgable about the company.
This is one of the most important tips. Most employers will ask you to tell them what you know about the company and that can be an issue if you haven't done your research. So be sure brush up on the company history prior to the interview so you are not left stumped by this oh so common question. While browsing through the company's history, pick out a few things that really stand out to you whether it's some of the company's recent accomplishments or even how long ago they were founded and go from there. Also, make sure to review the job description of the position that you are applying for because they may ask you why you believe you are qualified for the position. If you're not one hundred percent sure what the exact position does, it can be a pretty tough question to answer.

#2: Dress appropriately for the job you're applying for.
How you decide to dress for your interview all depends on what type of place you're interviewing for. If you're interviewing at a retail store, wearing a nice dress and some flats will suffice. You can also wear slacks and a blouse if that makes you feel more comfortable.
If you're interviewing at a corporate business place, then you should dress more formal since their everyday attire is typically business attire. A pencil skirt or a pair slacks paired with a blouse would work for this type of environment. You can even throw in a blazer if you'd like.

#3: Practice some common interview questions beforehand.
If you do this prior to your interview, you will be less likely to get caught off guard when the employer is asking you a string of questions. It is best to practice this with another person and have a "mock interview" to get a feel for how it will be on the day of your actual interview. (Sometimes there are multiple interviews present to ask you questions). If you rehearse your answers a few times beforehand and get a feel for what you are going to stay, you will be more confident in yourself and in turn will deliver your responses with ease.

#4: Eye Contact.
Eye contact is key during an interview. It lets the employer know that you're confident in yourself and interested in what they have to say. A lack of eye contact will make an interviewer think that you are bored or uninterested in getting the job. They also might take that as you being too shy to look them in the eye. Make sure to be confident and look your future employer in the eye as much as possible. This is one of the hardest things for people to become comfortable with, but once you have this down and are confident in your answers, you'll conquer practically every interview you go to.

#5: Ask Questions.
Not only is your employer wanting to know about all about you and your qualifications for the job, but you should want to know about what they can offer you as well. Pick some questions to ask at the end of the interview such as "Where do you see this company going in the next 5 years?"or "What are the every day duties for this position", etc. They will appreciate that you seem interested in knowing more about the position and their thoughts on things and that could possibly help seal the deal.

We at B&G Designs hope that these tips will be helpful to you in your job search. Happy hunting.

Jenny

Summer Playlist

Let's talk summertime tunes.
Everybody has their summer songs that whenever you hear them, you imagine yourself driving through town with the top down, feet on a dashboard, going to a beach with your hair blowing in the wind. Okay, maybe not everyone, but I sure do even though I have never actually done that in my life.

Moving on, I am a complete country music kind of girl, but I tried to think of some other good songs that are not country. I put together a list of songs that you could put on a CD (ancient, right?!) and listen to in the car of the good songs of the summer. There are some good songs to take you back to the good times along with some pump up music thrown in there as well! Check it out:

1. Drunk On A Plane by Dierks Bentley
2. Somethin' Bad by Miranda Lambert ft. Carrie Underwood (Two perfect girls in one song?!)
3. Wiggle by Jason Derulo ft. Snoop Dog (You can't help but love this song)
4. Problem by Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea
5. American Kids by Kenny Chesney
6. Meanwhile Back at Mama's by Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill
7. Ain't It Fun by Paramore
8. I Wish I Could Break Your Heart by Cassadee Pope
9. Keep Them Kisses Comin' by Craig Campbell
10. 19 You and Me by Dan + Shay
11. Later On by The Swon Brothers
12. Bartender by Lady Antebellum
13. Beat This Summer by Brad Paisley
14. Riverbank by Brad Paisley
15. Cruise by Florida Georgia Line (I don't think this song will ever get old for me.)
16. Dust by Eli Young Band
17. The Man by Aloe Blacc
18. Summertime by Kenny Chesney (Really any Kenny Chesney song is summery.)
19. Sunshine & Whiskey by Frankie Ballard
20. Beachin' by Jake Owen
21. Play It Again by Luke Bryan
22. Where It's At by Dustin Lynch

I hope these songs made you think of what your favorite summer tunes are. If you have other suggestions, leave them down below in the comments. You can never have enough good music in your life.

Dreams

We're writing again today with another quote! These are all found on our Pinterest page, so be sure to check them out!
This quote particularly connected with me. As a college girl, or even just a girl in my twenties, my dreams have become a little smaller. My dreams have become as small as "just pass this test." Reading this quote made me remember that I need to look beyond just what I want to do next week or next month. I need to think about what I want in the long run.

I have decided to find my dreams that I had when I was a little girl. I wanted to be a princess. You know what? I am going to be a princess. No, I may not be a princess in the fairy tale story kind of way, but I choose to be a princess that helps others. Those princesses are nice to everyone. They are always elegant. They help those who cannot help themselves. That's what I want to do. I am choosing to be a princess that helps others, dresses beautifully, and is nice to everyone even the ones that do not deserve it.

What are your childhood dreams reimagined??

Joy

If you're following B&G Designs on Pinterest, you have probably seen this quote pinned on there. If you aren't following us, here is the link to check us out

This quote is one that specifically called out to me when I was going through our "Quotable" board. Over the past few months, I have really started trying to focus on the good things in my life. I understand how hard it is to see how good life actually is when there are so many other things to worry about. We've got college, work, boys, friendships, sororities, and the list goes on. When one thing goes wrong, it starts to feel like nothing in the world can go right anymore. Maybe that's just me, but I cannot be the only one in the world who has these thoughts. Granted, I tend to be a little overly dramatic, but that is beside the point.

The way that I have personally been working on finding peace and joy in my life has been to take time out of every day and think of 3 things that are good in my life. When I first decided to do this, I thought 3 would be too hard, so I started off with just 1. (Note: I was going through a very stressful time.) These good things don't have to be huge things. Sometimes mine were as simple as 1) I had my favorite meal at dinner today, 2) I got to talk to my mom on the phone, and 3) there are __ many days until summer break.

Once, I started looking at the small good things in my life, I realized that it's not as bad as I thought it was. I remembered how lucky I am and that the bad things manage to get fixed at some point.

What are some of the good things going on in your life right now? Comment below if you're brave enough to share!

4th of July Lookbook

As you know, the Fourth of July is just right around the corner! Do you have your outfit picked out yet?  If not, that's okay. Because B&G Designs is here to help you do just that!

Casual/Dressy Day Outfit:
For a casual outfit there are a number of things you could wear. You can throw together almost any outfit combination as long as it's red, white, and blue. For instance, you could pair a plain white tee with a red statement necklace and some classic navy blue chino shorts.  These white American flag whale embroidered shorts from Vineyard Vines featured on the left can also be a wonderful option for the 4th. Because the shorts are pretty wild, you could go with a simple navy or red top and sandals to complete this look.

If you want to wear something a little more dressy during the daytime, you could wear a pair of white jeans, a red or blue top, a statement necklace or earrings, and some heels or wedges, like the outfit featured to the right.  This navy stars blouse paired with white jeans and nude heels is perfect for both day and night Fourth of July festivities. You could also go for a plain red, white or blue dress and some sandals for a cute and effortless day time look.

Another outfit idea is pairing an American flag scarf (which is a super popular idea right now) with a navy and white striped tee shirt with a pair of red shorts and some sandals like the outfit to the left. You can also add plenty of accessories such as a bracelet or two and some stud earrings. You can even add a necklace if you feel like it.
Casual/Dressy Night:
Usually, people tend to dress up a little more for night time 4th of July events. For a casual night time look, you could pair a red sleeveless blouse with jeans and a pair of brown wedges, as pictured to the right. You can add a striped navy and white bag to jazz up your outfit even more. You can also add some jewelry, such as pearl stud earrings and some gold bracelets to complete your look. If you want to make the outfit pop even more, you can add a bold white statement necklace.

Another casual night time outfit idea is pairing this white tank top with a navy blue skirt with a brown belt and an adorable pair of white wedges.  To add a little flair to the outfit, you can add a purse of your choice and a red statement necklace. To make this outfit complete, add an American flag bow to a half-up, half-down hairdo.  You can even add some pearl earrings if you aren't a fan of your ears being bare.

For a little more dressy look, you could wear a red, white, or blue dress paired with accessories in those colors and a pair of wedges or heels. You could also interchange the white dress for a red or blue dress, if you are looking to be a little more colorful. This adorable firework print Lilly Pulitzer dress to the left is the perfect option for a night out on the town. You will look cute and put together -- dresses are always perfect for that reason because they're pretty much effortless. Instead of wearing sandals, you could add a pair of wedges to make the outfit a little more dressy for night time.

Whatever you chose to wear on this occasion, make sure you are sporting some red, white and blue! Happy 4th of July everyone!

Love,
Jenny

Summer Wardrobe Series: By The Water

Let's go to the beach each, let's go get a wave.

Now that that's out of the way. On to the important stuff in this post: what to wear by the water. Summer is finally among us, and that means trips to the beach, lake, river, pool, or any body of water. You're not alone thinking that you have no idea what to wear! The girls at B&G want to make the packing list a little easier on you!

First, let's start with the item that you do not want to be without: a swimsuit! There are tons of bikinis that are in style this summer whether they have sequins, patterns, cute backs, or just your regular triangle top. Check out our previous post specifically on swimsuits! If you go to Target, you are sure to find something to suit your fancy! Another good thing about shopping at Target is there are always sales. I have bought plenty of swim suits from Target that have lasted me years.
If bikinis aren't what you feel comfortable in, don't feel discouraged! There are tons of cute tankinis if you want something to allow some sun on your back. Otherwise, there are always one pieces. I know what you're thinking right now. A one piece? No way! Well, I'm not talking about the ones that swimmers wear and get those awful X and O tan lines on their backs. (Trust me, it's taken me years to get rid of mine...) There are one pieces out there that have halters and are really cute! They might even be better if you're going to be in a lake doing jet skis and other things!

Floppy hats are becoming a must have on the beach these days! I recently bought one with my monogram on it. I love it for laying out by the water and reading a book. I didn't think it would make a difference of seeing my book, but I don't strain my eyes nearly as much! Not to mention the fact that I am saving the sun from hitting my face and causing wrinkles...

Another essential when hitting the water is a cover up. My favorite cover up is a dress that I found at TJ Maxx. It is a knee length dress that is towel material. It is a tube top type of dress with elastic around the breast to the waist. It is super cute over a bathing suit or alone with a cute set of flip flops! Really, any flowing dress is cute over a swim suit or without when by the water. I add flowing because we all have been sunburned before...The last thing you want to put on your sunburn is tight clothing...

*All pictures were found on Pinterest*

Stay fabulous and enjoy the water!

Get Organized!: Makeup

From make up to school supplies there are so many things that need organization. If you are anything like us here at B&G Designs, we have way too many things and it is nearly impossible to keep them all organized. This post is starting off our 'Get Organized!' series where we will share our tips and tricks on organizing almost every part of your life!

We are going to start with makeup. Many of us use it and have much more than we will ever use or run out of. How on earth can we organize it in a way where you can find everything you need when you need it?

If you love to craft, like most of us do, a magnetic make-up board might be the thing for you. As pictured (right), you can customize it and completely make it your own. This is a super handy way to not only organize, but see all the make-up you have without digging through numerous drawers. This is a simple way to increase your counter and drawer space which is especially essential when living in smaller housing, such as dorms or apartments, as a young adult. Even though the picture does not show this, to save even more counter space, buy a cup or pencil holder, add magnets to one side and use it to keep all of your make-up brushes on your board! These boards are definitely a popular pin on Pinterest and can make getting ready in the morning much easier! If you're interested in making your own, you can find instructions here.

If counter space is not much of an issue for you (jealous!), then this counter top organizer (left) might be a great option! While this does take up some space, it seems like it is one of the best ways to keep everything organized and in one place. With something as simple as this you can keep your eyeshadows separate from your lip glosses and your foundation separate from your mascara. This type of organization also makes everything easy to see. Having a place for everything will keep your counters tidy and make getting ready much easier.
These are only two suggestions on how to organize your makeup and are definitely not the only options. Depending on what space you have available and how large your collection is something else might work better. Hopefully this inspired you to get creative with your organization and will make your life easier!

Summer Wardrobe Series: Summer Dates

Summer is here, but what do you wear?

Lilly Pulitzer's summer collection is amazing this year. I had a shopping day there and I found so many great outfits. One of the outfits I found was this skirt (left top) in "She She Shells" and a pink ruffled top. I love this outfit because there is so much blue in the skirt that the pink from the top really makes the starfish in the print pop. For accessories you could do gold or silver, I chose to do my gold monogram necklace, gold Alex and Ani bracelets, and pearls. For shoes since I chose to go with the gold, I wore my gold Jack Rogers. This would be an outfit that I would like to wear out to a nice dinner on the pier.

This piece is more of an everyday look. This is simple to duplicate and very cute. The shorts featured in the picture (left middle) are J. Crew, sailboat patterned. The top is a simple blue jean shirt and the belt has a roped look that you can find at most trendy stores, like J.Crew, Gap, and Von Maur. Like any preppy lady she made this outfit complete with her silver Jack Rogers. Jack Rogers can be worn with anything. The nautical theme it looks very comfortable while still stylish it is great to wear for a daytime date to the farmers market, just around town whatever else your day may bring!

Navy. Navy seems to be the hot color this year. I mean look at this outfit (left bottom)! Along with the navy trend we are still seeing a lot of nautical themed pieces in the upcoming summer months. This outfit is very easy to duplicate. All you need are white jeans and a cute navy top (such as this one from Reiss outlet) to get this look. Now, accessories! The Michael Kors navy travel striped tote is adorable. It goes perfectly with this outfit as well as the other accessories in gold. The gold Marc by Marc Jacobs bracelet accompanied by a Rita gold necklace, and a C. Wonders gold ring adorned with a navy anchor add the finishing touches to this outfit. Add some Kate Spade pearl earrings and gold Jack Rogers and your look is complete. This outfit is easily transition-able from day to night. It would be perfect for dinner on the terrace at the country club or a nice evening walk. It's comfortable, simple, and still adorably cute!

Summer Wardrobe Series: Bathing Suits

Let's talk bathing suits.  Some people dread summer, because of bathing suit season.  Let me tell you, with our fashion industry today there is so many different styles of bathing suits that you won't dread it anymore. This Lilly bathing suit in "She She Shells" could be worn anywhere. The bright colors are perfect for a day at the pool or beach.  There are tons of new one piece's that are adorable. The one piece below is more nautical.  This bathing suit would be adorable with a large, floppy, navy beach hat.  Lots of people are going for the vintage look this summer.  There's vintage one-pieces and two-pieces.  I love the vintage look on people.  It's a fresh look that hasn't been around for awhile. The bikini on the right is adorable, the polka dots are simple but cute.

One of the biggest trends this summer (that has been going on for a while) are monograms! They're everywhere! From hats, to bandeau bathing suits, shorts, tanks, tshirts, frockets, headbands, purses jewelry, etc.  As some people say, "If it isn't monogrammed is it even yours?" Some of my favorite monogrammed looks are the beach hats. They're fun, flirty and just so dang cute! Another one of my favorite monogrammed looks are the monogrammed long champs.  Whoever came up with that idea is a genius.  So many people have long champs now, that it is fun to personalize your own to make it a little different.  You can do it as shown in the picture, or on the flap that closes it.

Maxis. Maxi skirts and maxi dresses are a new fashion trend.  From J.Crew, to Francesca's, to Von Maur, to H&M, maxis are everywhere! You can find so many different patterns, colors, and fabrics.  Floral maxis are a big hit everywhere. You can put a simple top with it but still be able to wear it to fancy events.  Solid color maxi's such as black are a huge hit too.  You can put them with an extravagant top, or a simple top with lots of accessories.

Trends are always popping up everywhere. Keep your eye out for the newest summer trend!

Much Love,
Elizabeth
